The hoopoe is a special bird for me, whose annual return for the breeding season I eagerly anticipate. With its striking crest and characteristic call, it brings back a piece of vibrant nature each year. In recent years, I have intensively documented the hoopoe photographically, capturing many impressive moments of this fascinating bird. Particularly noteworthy is its preference for the mole cricket – an insect found only where agriculture is not excessively intensive. Its presence demonstrates how important near-natural farming practices are for the balance of our ecosystems. The hoopoe thus symbolizes an intact habitat and reminds us how crucial a careful approach to nature is for the survival of such species.
