European hamster
Project type
photography
Photographing European hamsters is a unique challenge in nature photography. These animals are rare, very cautious, and usually only venture out of their burrows for brief moments. Therefore, it requires a great deal of patience, quiet behavior, often many hours of waiting, and, of course, luck.
When a hamster finally emerges from its burrow and moves among the grass and flowers, the result is unique and very natural-looking images. Pictures taken from a low angle are particularly impressive, allowing you to encounter the animal at eye level and experience its habitat firsthand. Whenever possible, you should photograph from eye level anyway. This perspective lends the photo a special quality. Long focal lengths are also necessary here to avoid disturbing the hamsters in their natural habitat.
